Hear Mikayla's story

Hello CWS family,
My name is Mikayla Pivert. I attended CWS from kindergarten to 8 th grade in Mr. Parker’s class of 2014. I now live in Northwest Portland and work as a Medical Scribe in Neurosurgery Spine at OHSU. Since, moving I have found wonderful volunteer and research opportunities locally which I am thoroughly enjoying. I will be applying to Medical School this May for Fall of 2024 and am greatly looking forward to see what the future holds for a career in medicine. My years at Waldorf hold many fond memories. From backpacking 22 miles along the Mackenzie river trail to singing the national anthem at a Beaver basketball game. CWS provided me with a unique and multifaceted education that I feel has helped shape me in the way I carry myself today. The most important thing I take with me is a love for learning fostered by art, music and hands on learning. That is something I hold onto through the difficult courses I faced at Oregon State in my undergraduate degree and the medical exams I will face ahead. Mr. Parker always found a way to make learning magical. I find it impossible to pick just one memory so I will share a few of my favorites. Our yearly play, especially helping draw the back drops with beautifully colored chalk. The Greek games and yearly track and field events. The Michaelmas celebration and finally getting to be the dragon in our last year. Science experiments, strings class, learning to knit socks, making a wooden spoon, playing on the basketball team and learning Spanish, a skill I continue to use in clinic today. Waldorf embodies true enrichment of education in all aspects. I am very grateful to my Mom for choosing this to be the start of my education and to Mr. Parker, the CWS faculty and all of my classmates for making it so special.

Hear Ellie's story

I graduated from CWS in 2007 and Ms. Barrios was my teacher. I loved being part of such a tightly knit arts centered community. My whole class were my best friends and I’ve kept in touch with many of them. I loved singing and learning to crochet and play the violin. I loved the trips to beautiful outdoor places. Most of all I remember the plays- particularly Fiddler of the Roof which we pulled off splendidly with only 13 people. I have taken part in dozens of local community theatre productions over the years since my passion for acting has only grown since my time at CWS. I graduated from Oregon State with a BS in BioHealth Sciences about 4 years ago and now I am working as a pharmacy technician at the Corvallis area Safeway stores, volunteering as a cashier at the Heartland Humane Society Thrift Shop and thinking about what comes next.
